A car accident involving multiple vehicles left eleven people injured in South Los Angeles over the weekend.

According to a city fire official, the accident occurred around 7:30 p.m. on New Year's Eve in the 100 Block of West 103rd Street. The two-car collision reportedly occurred near South Main Street. Eleven people who were traveling in the two vehicles were taken to local hospitals to receive treatment for their injuries.

At this time, the names and ages of the victims have not yet been released. It is also unclear how serious the extent of their injuries are.

Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the accident. No official statement has been made regarding whether drugs, alcohol, speeding or other reckless behavior contributed to the collision. Anyone who may have witnessed the accident is urged to contact the Los Angeles Police Department at 1-877-275-5273 or through the anonymous tip line at 1-877-527-3247.

Should law enforcement officials determine that the accident was caused by drugs, alcohol or other negligent behavior, the responsible driver may face criminal charges. In addition to the possibility of criminal penalties, there is also the potential for civil fines should the injured victims choose to file a personal injury lawsuit. Under California law, car accident victims who are hurt through the carelessness or recklessness of another driver have the right to seek damages for their medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering.
