Victims car burst into flames upon impact.

A drunk driver is suspected of causing a fatal car accident that killed two San Diego residents on Friday.

According to police reports, 39-year-old Justin Foulds was driving his Chevrolet Silverado southbound along Highway 125 when he rear-ended a Nissan Pathfinder driven by Celia Torres, 73. In the car with Ms. Torres was her 16-year-old grandson David Gonzalez. The two were on their way to a dentist appointment when the collision occurred. Foulds was reportedly on his way home from an office holiday party.

Upon impact, both the Silverado and the Pathfinder burst into flames. Foulds was able to escape uninjured but Ms. Torres and her grandson were trapped in the vehicle and ultimately died at the scene. Witnesses who attempted to free them stated that the fire was so intense it was impossible to get near the Pathfinder and that at least one explosion occurred. The Medical Examiner's Office has said that it may take several days to officially identify the victims due to the condition of their remains.

Police arrested Foulds and booked him into county jail on $500,000 bond. Both witnesses and police claim that he was visibly intoxicated and one driver said that Foulds had sideswiped their vehicle prior to the accident. His arraignment for vehicular manslaughter and DUI charges is scheduled for Tuesday in an El Cajon court.

This fatal car accident demonstrates how the negligence of one person can have life-altering consequences for unsuspecting motorists. The driver in this case will likely face jail or prison time for his actions and have to pay restitution to the victim's families. He may also face civil penalties if the surviving family members choose to pursue a wrongful death claim for damages. Hopefully, they will consult an experienced personal injury attorney to protect their rights.
