Medications Raise Risk Of Auto Injury Accidents As Stated In Wall Street Journal
The December 14th, 2010 Wall Street Journal has reported that certain prescription drugs raises the risk of drivers being involved in serious auto accidents. A recent study in France has shown that out of the 72,000 drivers involved in serious injury accidents between 2005 and2008 that 27% had taken at least one prescribed medicine on the day of the accident. It was also suggested that at least one level two or level three drug which are anti-hypertensions, diabetes drugs, opioids, and anti-depressants accounted for an abnormal number of being responsible for car accidents then drivers taking lower level drugs or not on any medication. The study was adjusted for long term chronic disease medication and possible alcohol use. Research has concluded that the study shows the need for better patient education about the side effects of certain drugs especially while driving.
